2011 Drama: Rehearsals

Our cast started rehearsing in April (actual performance was the last weekend of July and first weekend on August).  Rehearsals were usually twice a week for a few hours at the Waipahu hall.  First, we focused on positioning.  Then we worked on our expressions and gestures.  Finally, we mastered our lines and practiced with costumes and makeup.  Each rehearsal was a process of refining our acting and improving ways to convey the essence of the lessons conveyed in the script.   We rehearsed in our casual clothes for the first couple of months.  Jeff always left rehearsals with bruises, skinned knees, cuts, and other injuries!
Our kind and patient directors
During later rehearsals, the second school was used for hair and makeup (and SNACKS!).  Crowded and cozy!
The costume/prop crew made innovative use of simple materials.  Can you figure out what materials were used to make these Egyptian bracelets? (Answer: Gatorade bottles!)  The crew devoted countless hours to creating  props and costumes that were historically accurate and appropriate to the script.

Here is a small portion of the clothes rack containing the costumes.  After each dress rehearsal, the crew cleaned, steamed, pressed the costumes, and made necessary repairs... or created a whole new costume if one was destroyed.  (I'm referring to Joseph's outer garment.  During our very last rehearsal, I managed to rip it apart.  Literally.  Our dear seamstress kindly created a new one.)
Customized beards/mustaches were made from scratch.  The first step was to sketch the outline of beard on nylon.
