Treinta y Seis
Our parents just celebrated their 36th anniversary in January! To commemorate the event, we took family pictures at Aiea Loop Trail in matching purple outfits. For more pictures (the professional ones), click on the following link:
Afterwards, we dined at Ichiriki for the first time. They specialized in the Japanese Hot Pot, called Nabe. We tried the seafood nabe, which was really good.
Congrats to Mom and Dad and best wishes for endless years of love and joy!

One Way to Spend a Free Night
Did you ever end up at WalMart, shuffling through DVD's in the $5 bin, wondering how you ended up there? That pretty much sums up this night. Jeff and I somehow ended up going to Costco, Walmart, and Zippy's with these cool kids. I have no idea how or why.
It just happened.
Kailua and Makana
One is a place and the other is a person. A few of us took a trip to the green side to check out the farmer's market in Kailua. Our sniece (sister/niece) Makana tagged along. We sampled some ono grinds, including delish tiny cheesecakes. Later, I found Yorkie soap in Whole Foods. Is it made for Yorkies or made of Yorkies? Hmmm...
Winter Reunion
One of the special treats of this year was a visit from two of my closest friends, neither of whom live on Oahu. Coincidentally, they were able to visit when Jeff gave his first public talk in Ewa Beach South. We had a reunion at my parents' house and, despite a bunch of us recovering from the stomach flu, we had a fun time catching up. I look forward to the next time we could all spend together. =)
Sew Awesome!
Aunty Vicky let us take a peek into her house and showed us her awesome quilts and antique sewing machine (no pedal foot, need to crank it with your knee). Her latest quilt (the one on the bed) was comprised of hundreds of hand-cut squares which were triple-stitched! I loved the vintage fabrics, especially the thick vibrant Hawaiian barkcloth prints.
After visiting her house, I was so motivated to start sewing again!
(Now if I could only find the time...)
A New Addition to the Clan
No, I did not give birth and Jeff and I are not expecting. But, we have a new addition to the Catungal branch of our family tree! Richard, my lil bro, wed Melissa last November! The newly weds exchanged vows at the Aiea Kingdom Hall, then we celebrated at Mandalay Restaurant in town. (Whenever I see/hear "Mandalay," I think of the Seinfeld show and George yelling "Vandelay!") Their wedding had cute and fun features, such as the photo puzzle (guests wrote advice on the back of the puzzle pieces) and Abe's leather pants story. Congratulations to Richard and Mel! As I wrote on the puzzle piece: "Clothe yourselves with love." May Jehovah bless your marriage!

Rainbows, Trucks, and Lunches
Why are they called manapua trucks? Shouldn't they be called manapua vans? I ate from a truck for the first time, in a long time. I chose the wrong truck! The noodles were disappointing. The pancit I ate on the following day, though, were the bombdiggity! Yum!
